Face to Face – The Word Witnessed (John 1:6-13)

6There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe.8He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
9The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husbandʼs will, but born of God.

• Big Idea
  • Because we have a Father who loves us, we can live out His glorious inheritance for us in Christ.
• Sent from God                                                                                                                              
  • The people of Israel were lost, just like we're lost.  
  • John knew when he saw Jesus that our Savior had arrived.  John 1:15, 29
• True Light                                                                                                                            
  • Without the light we're all spiritually dead.  Ephesians 2:1-5
  • Dead people don't know they're dead.    
• Receive Him                                                                                                                           
  • We can be made alive! 2 Corinthians 5:17; Colossians 3:16 
  • Let God take away your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. Ezekiel 11:19; Romans 3:10-12; Philippians 3:8
• Born of God                                                                                                                               
  • Not everyone is a child of God in the sense of being adopted into His family.  Ephesians 1:5                                                                                                                  
  • We have two rights as children of God.
    • The first is intimate access. 
    • The second, we're made heirs.  Romans 8:18
• Going Home                                                                                                                                
  • Don't wait to take hold of the new life in Christ. 2 Corinthians 6:2
  • Share the benefits of your inheritance with those who have not yet come home.
