Vv. 21-22 With whom is Jesus sharing this story?
Vv. 23-25 How is our sin like the first servant’s debt?
Vv. 26-27 Why did the servant ask for patience instead of mercy?
Vv. 28-29 What did the first servant’s words and actions toward the second servant demonstrate?
Vv. 30-31 Why were the other servants “greatly distressed”?
Vv. 32-34 Why is torture an appropriate penalty for not showing mercy?
V. 35 How do we forgive from the heart?

Matthew 1:18-24

I. Intro
Big Idea: Christmas reveals the resolution of our deepest longings.

II. Expecting
A. Joseph and Mary were already committed to one another.
B. When Joseph found out Mary was pregnant, he was morally compelled not to marry her.

III. Consider
A. Joseph’s esteem before God was dealt with once and for all. Mark 6:3
B. God blessed Joseph with the privilege of adopting His Son.

IV. Fulfilled
A. Who can save from sins? According to the Old Testament, only God. Micah 7:18; Isaiah 43:25
B. Are you willing to come with nothing?

V. Awake
A. Do not be afraid.
B. Take a risk.

Big Idea
- Making disciples is impossible – apart from Christ's presence among us. \
Why Are We Here?
- God has called us to Him. Matthew 28:16
- Disciples show up! 1 Corinthians 15:6; John 4:28
When We See Him…
- Christ's presence prompts abandon. Matthew 28:17; 2 Corinthians 5:20
- We lose focus of Jesus. John 1:3; Hebrews 1:3
What's Required?
- Believing in Jesus includes submitting to His authority. Matthew 28:18
- In Christ authority equals freedom.
What's Our Calling?
- Jesus calls His followers to go and represent His kingdom in the world. Matthew 28:18-20
- We're to teach complete obedience to Christ. John 13:34-35; 1 John 3:15
How Can We Follow?
- Christ's presence empowers us to make disciples. Matthew 1:23; Matthew 28:20a
- We can lift our eyes to Jesus. Matthew 28:20b
